Since 2011, community members have joined together every year in the month of March to take a stand against domestic violence and sexual assault by joining the annual Choose Respect March. This march is part of a statewide initiative to end the epidemic of DV/SA in Alaska. 

 

SYLC members take a leadership role at the march each year by carrying the "Choose Respect" banner and leading community members through town. They give presentations about youth leadership and advocacy and start important conversations about the role of youth in our society. 

 

In 2016, past and present SYLC members spoke the the crowd about what respect meant to them and the important role that youth play in creating a safe and respectful community. They discussed their Mission Unstoppable campaign and how a respectful relationship between the high schools in Sitka is a necessary part of a respectful community.
